Tomorrow's Black Lives Matter protest in Sydney remains an unauthorised event after organisers lost an appeal in court.
New South Wales Police yesterday won a Supreme Court battle to prohibit the rally, arguing it would breach public health orders. Organisers this afternoon appealed the decision, claiming the court did not have the jurisdiction to hear the police application.A protest leader has previously said the event would go ahead even if organisers lost today's appeal.
Paddy Gibson said on Sunday organisers would "do everything we can to keep everyone as safe as we can" and warned protesters to stay away if they had any cold or flu-like symptoms. "Make sure you wear a mask, make sure you comply with the regulations and stay distant but please, racism cannot be defeated by isolating in your house."NSW Police Commissioner Mick Fuller took rally organisers to the Supreme Court over concerns the demonstration would breach public health orders aimed at slowing the spread of coronavirus.

The protest organisers can claim how safe they’ll be all they want. But in reality face coverings aren’t worn the whole time; they slide them down to their chins to shout and spew droplets. They won’t physically distance. It’s a big gamble no sensible person wants.
