Plaintiffs in census case say Trump administration "lied" about the reasons for the citizenship question
In a reaction to today's decision, Thomas A. Saenz, president and general counsel of MALDEF, plaintiffs in the census case, said in a statement that SCOTUS"effectively ruled." He added that Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross"lied to Congress and the public about the reasons he chose to add an unwarranted citizenship question to Census 2020."“Today, the U.S.
“At the same time, todays’ Supreme Court decision permits our live, ongoing claim — that the Trump administration intentionally discriminated against the Latino community in violation of the Constitution — to move forward to prevent the citizenship question from staying on Census 2020.
I SAID MY FREAKING MONEY IF YAH DON'T YAH NOT GONNE MAKE IT ANOTHER YEAR
I've been searching your Twitter and news pages. I haven't found 1 retraction regarding the Trump Russian collusion hoax. As CNN whirlpools into the commode w/the rest of the feces, will you let us know when you're going to retract all those lies you spread for over 2 years?
It baffles me how India can make it possible for all eligible voters to have an ID, at no immediate cost to them since it is in the national budget, with a population of over 1 BILLION people and we, the 'land of the free,' are still arguing over gerrymandering and suppression.
John Roberts has betrayed his conservative roots. How ridiculous that a country doesn't even have a right to know how many citizens are living in it.
Good work
That’s crazy, you’re asked that on a lot of applications, like for work etc. Guess that’s why a lot of people don’t know that
That's great...
Trump, upon learning that :his judges” blocked his campaign of fear and terror ... has an epic meltdown on Twitter.
Can we just stop entertaining foolishness from Den of Thieves?!
I imagine it went something like this.
The census is to count the population of citizens not the illegals, visitors or foreigners.
Why ? Afraid we may find out actually how many illegals in America
I think it's important to know how many residents are citizens so that we will be able to further secure our voting process. Citizens over 18 should be able to vote. Residents who are here should not be able to vote in any election.
Open borders. Check Motor voter law. Check Annonymous Census count. Check Screams about voter intimidation Check Rumors about Russian interference. Check Electronic ballots, no paper. Check 2020 election win. Check
But but i thought Trump packed the courts. Can't wait for the left to spin this one.
Temporarily
Now the courts working with Republican party. This decision allow those republicans to not count non-white votes by gerrymander
Now they are all tyred and stresse by this man i c'ant call him a leader
If you thought illegal immigration was bad before, watch the next six months in awe. California will have half the house of reps.
Well isn’t that just a lovely decision, SCOTUS. Now Congress gets more representation based on the numbers of illegals in their districts. What an unfair advantage for the Democratic Party in the electoral college also. Congress is supposed to represent Americans, not illegals.
everyone already knew they would block it CNN is just like the failings new York times never said anything about all the people millions and millions that died back in the early 30s
Honestly I don't completely understand the issue of asking if someone is a citizen, I mean as long as its followed up with a question of whether or not said person is attempting to get citizenship and said information is not shared with ICE I don't really see any issues.
In other words SCOTUS wants a more plausible lie before they will allow it.
Citizenship has nothing to do with residence.
FOR NOW
Awesome news!
More votes for the democrats, you dont need to be a citizen to vote. Makes sense right.
So absolutely nobody wants to know the amount of people in the USA? That is ridiculous!
Correct, it is not the job of the Supreme Court to protect constitutionally guaranteed voting rights! Oh wait, yes it is. What happened here?
RIDICULOUS. We can’t ask our own people who benefit from our country if they’re a citizen because it might scare people who came her ILLEGALY? WTF has happened to our country
There should never be a citizenship question in the census questionaire. At least not with this administration. We are under counted already, people are afraid as to how the Gov uses this information. It is not used for its original intended purpose.
Supreme Court says federal judges have no role in policing gerrymandering, but that decision alone DOES make it political. The conservative judges have made a statement and IT IS POLITICAL.
I don’t understand why its a problem to ask if someone’s a citizen when they vote? Am I missing something? Lol
Roberts voted with the liberals - he’s maintaining the integrity of the court (of course Trump’s “Obama judges and Trump judges” comment had NOTHING to do with it). How do you like them apples, Donald?
Partisan gerrymandering is cool. Rigging the census is not quite as cool. So much whiplash right now.
What about the FISA investigation? When will you be telling the TDS patients about that?
Well they got one right
Tired of winning yet?!
Interesting
Remanded to a lower court.
Thank God.
At least SCOTUS did one right thing today
