Supreme Court dismisses appeal from Virginia’s GOP-controlled House of Delegates, which had sought to reinstate VA's legislative districts map after it was struck down for improper racial gerrymandering.

A narrowly-divided Supreme Court on Monday dismissed an appeal from Virginia’s Republican-controlled House of Delegates which sought to reinstate the state’s legislative districts map after it was struck down for improper racial gerrymandering.

“The House, as a single chamber of a bicameral legislature, has no standing to appeal the invalidation of the redistricting plan separately from the state of which it is a part,” wrote Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg for the majority. “Today’s Supreme Court ruling is a victory for democracy and voting rights in our Commonwealth,” said Governor Ralph Northam. “When we corrected racially gerrymandered districts earlier this year, we righted a wrong—as I have always said, voters should choose their representatives, not the other way around.”

Supreme Court hands Democrats a win in Virginia racial gerrymander caseSupreme Court hands Democrats a win in Virginia racial gerrymander case. Court-ordered maps will continue to be used. It's not that it 'Hands Democrats a win', it's that it was gerrymandered to give the Republicans a clear win so now it's an even playing field. Too much winning l, first the double jeopardy case not taken up, now the court ruled gerrymandering maps are upheld. This isn't handed Dems a win, this is handig democracy a win. Gerrymandering needs to be outlawed and all district maps should be independently created. Void of all political interference.

Supreme Court declines to change double jeopardy rule in a case with Manafort implicationsTrump's former campaign manager might have been helped if the case involving an Alabama man on gun and robbery charges had been overturned. What’s hilarious is Manafort would have to admit to his crimes to receive a pardon from Trump. Then the state could charge him and basically have his confession as additional evidence. 🔥👏🏽 Watch out Trump. NY and NJ may be coming for you.

Supreme Court dodges case of baker's refusal to serve gay customers on religious groundsThe Supreme Court on Monday sent back a case pitting religious liberty against LGBTQ rights to the lower courts for further consideration in light of last term's ruling in favor of a Colorado baker who refused to make a cake for a same-sex couple. Stories like these make no sense. That’s how you make money. Put your beliefs (no matter how antiquated they are) to the side. People are people. All that matter’s is how good the couple are. If they know ruling against the same sex couple will spark backlash and obviously hurt Trump then refusing to do so is COWARDICE. zipped
