Supreme Court hands Democrats a win in Virginia racial gerrymander case. Court-ordered maps will continue to be used.

Washington In a victory for Democrats in Virginia, the Supreme Court held Monday that the Republican-led Virginia House of Delegates did not have the legal right to challenge a lower court opinion that struck several district maps they had drawn as an unconstitutional racial gerrymander.

This means court-ordered maps that favored Democrats will continue to be used.Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg wrote the opinion for a 5-4 court, joined by Justices Clarence Thomas, Sonia Sotomayor, Elena Kagan and Neil Gorsuch. Because the Supreme Court dismissed the challenge on standing grounds, justices did not rule if the maps constitute an unconstitutional racial gerrymander.

Hey CNN, democracy and fair elections are not partisan.

Is the Coonman happy?GovernorVA will you wear blackface or clan hood? FirstLadyVA will you let the Coonman dance?

The *voters* won.

So the Supreme Court isn’t Republican leaning? This is the difference in today’s politics. Republicans are working for the betterment of the nation, the democrats for illegal immigration, globalization, socialism. If you love America the choice is clear, Vote Republican.

Democrats in Virginia are well-organized and they devote their lives to getting Democrats elected. Pay attention, Republicans.

Good 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸 AND I’m a Republican

I fear that they ruled on a technicality by saying the VA House didn't have standing to sue, rather than on the merits of the case. And that they will use this ruling as a means to say they aren't being political when the allow WI and NC to gerrymander at will.

Nice politicizing The Supreme, Criminal News Network.

I guess it's just a victory for Democrats, and not democracy in general.

Actually a win for democracy.

Supreme Court was wrong. It is that simple.

Now that doesn't sound suspicious at all...

They didn’t really hear the case, not comprehending how is this a win.

This is important to voters who may have stayed home thinking..what's the use of trying to vote, it's fixed. I feel more hopeful.

'Supreme Court hands Americans a win'. Fixed it for you👍

Not just Democrats. Everyone who isn't a gerrymandering asshole wins. Perhaps others states can fix their broken representation.

📌Corrx: “...hands democracy a win”

This isn't handed Dems a win, this is handig democracy a win. Gerrymandering needs to be outlawed and all district maps should be independently created. Void of all political interference.

It's not that it 'Hands Democrats a win', it's that it was gerrymandered to give the Republicans a clear win so now it's an even playing field.

Too much winning l, first the double jeopardy case not taken up, now the court ruled gerrymandering maps are upheld.

Supreme Court sends gay wedding cake dispute back to state courtsThe Oregon case raises the same issues as the Colorado baker a year ago who refused to provide a custom cake for the wedding of two men. These cases are always weird to me. Like I get the discrimination is wrong but on the other hand, I don't want you making ANYTHING for me if you're a hateful bigot. I can’t believe in this day and age, there are no gay owned bakeries. It'll be interesting to see how this plays out. With the court becoming more conservative (and without knowing how long RBG will remain on it) time seems to be the most influential factor. Not to mention their is a similar case rising through the courts pertaining to a florist.

Supreme Court rejects appeal from DC prep school studentThe Supreme Court declined Monday to take up a case brought by a former student at a prestigious Washington, DC, prep school who alleged discrimination affected her chances for college admission. Well...she couldn’t pass her math class either. Hasn't Sidwell recently come under fire for parents basically having bullied the counselors?

Supreme Court declines to change double jeopardy rule in a case with Manafort implicationsTrump's former campaign manager might have been helped if the case involving an Alabama man on gun and robbery charges had been overturned. What’s hilarious is Manafort would have to admit to his crimes to receive a pardon from Trump. Then the state could charge him and basically have his confession as additional evidence. 🔥👏🏽 Watch out Trump. NY and NJ may be coming for you.

Supreme Court dodges case of baker's refusal to serve gay customers on religious groundsThe Supreme Court on Monday sent back a case pitting religious liberty against LGBTQ rights to the lower courts for further consideration in light of last term's ruling in favor of a Colorado baker who refused to make a cake for a same-sex couple. Stories like these make no sense. That’s how you make money. Put your beliefs (no matter how antiquated they are) to the side. People are people. All that matter’s is how good the couple are. If they know ruling against the same sex couple will spark backlash and obviously hurt Trump then refusing to do so is COWARDICE. zipped
