The government communication office asked the Supreme Court (SC) on Wednesday (Dec. 4) to allow government media agencies to cover live the Dec. 19 promulgation of the decision on the criminal cases involving the 2009 Maguindanao massacre.

In a letter to Court Administrator Jose Midas P. Marquez, Presidential Communications Operations Office Undersecretary Jose Joel Sy Egco, concurrently executive secretary of the Presidential Task Force on Media Security , wrote:

The same request for live media coverage of the promulgation of the decision had been made by the National Union of Journalists of the Philippines , the Center for Media Freedom and Responsibility and the Philippine Center for Investigative Journalism in a letter to Chief Justice Diosdado M. Peralta.

The group also said: “The undersigned organizations also ask the Honorable Court to designate a specific area within the courtroom as a media area/gallery for the reporters and cameramen to stay during the promulgation.” “Let the promulgation of judgment… be set on December 19, 2019 at 9:00 o’clock in the morning to be held at the Quezon City Jail Annex, Camp Bagong Diwa, Bicutan, Taguig City,” Judge Reyes’s one-page order stated.
