The Commission on Human Rights (CHR) has rejected the supposed killing of drug lords as a yardstick for being appointed chief of the Philippine National Police (PNP).

CHR spokesperson Jacqueline de Guia said the perception that lawless killing is a criterion for getting the top PNP post is very alarming and should be opposed to the highest degree.

She said the spirit of the PNP motto “To Serve and Protect” is anchored on the faithful application of the rule of law and due process as important elements of justice. While the CHR supports curbing illegal drug sale and use in the country, de Guia said this should not be done through shortcuts and sidestepping judicial processes.
