The appointment papers were transmitted to Chief Justice Diosdado M. Peralta by Executive Secretary Salvador C. Medialdea in separate letters dated Dec. 3, 2019.
With their appointments, there remains another vacancy in the 15-member SC as a result of the promotion of then-Associate Justice Diosdado M. Peralta to Chief Justice. It was not known immediately to which divisions Lopez and Delos Santos will be assigned. A division is composed of five justices. Prior to their appointments, there were three vacancies in the three divisions of the SC.
As re-organized, the first division is composed of Peralta as chairman, Associate Justice Alfredo Benjamin S. Caguoia as working chairman, and Associate Justices Jose C. Reyes Jr. and Amy C. Lazaro Javier as members. Associate Justice Henri Jean Paul B. Inting was designated temporary member to complete the division of five justices.
