Lawyers for the U.S. Department of Justice say the government still hopes to add a citizenship question to the 2020 census, but they have not made a decision about how to move forward.

Lawyers for the U.S. Department of Justice said the government still hopes to add a citizenship question to the 2020 census, but they have not made a decision about how to move forward.

On Tuesday, the Commerce Department announced that it had begun printing copies of the census without the question. "Despite DOJ’s repeated statements that the census questionnaire cannot be changed after June 30, the administration is now examining whether it can concoct a ‘new rationale’ for its citizenship question," the American Civil Liberties Union said in a statement on Wednesday."The answer is no, it cannot — at least not a legal one. Any attempt at an end run around the Supreme Court’s decision will be unsuccessful, and will be met swiftly in court.

Judge Hazel demanded the government present its plan by Friday afternoon, forcing lawyers to work through the July 4 holiday to come up with a new rationale that they hoped could pass muster with the Supreme Court. The lawyers assured Judge Hazel that printing of the census without the citizenship question included would continue.

DebtTrut Trumpler will try to print the census with the cit question and claim it’s too late to change.

from building the wall to the citizenship question, quite stubborn

Why don’t the lawyers follow the law that has been handed down by the court? The lawyers could also encourage Trump to uphold the law like he took an oath to do.

it's already back on took nothing to put it back on since it's been on for the last 150 years. The doj will listen to the president

I will boycott the question.

It’s an important question.

Should an invading force of foreigners be allocated congressional representation? I think not.

Add it in and get it over from trump crybaby. Just fill in name and address. Any other question would be irrelavant and optional. An army of hackers would be waiting to make profits on these census records, it's a public open source anyway.

And I want to win the lottery where the winnings total $4 billion.

So what if an applicant leaves it empty?

They created a law to determine the identity for employment and benefits that they would get. This is no differnt. If they created the law. FOLLOW THE FRILLING LAW AND ASK THE QUESTION. THEY HAVE TO VERIFY FOR EMPLOYMENT.

Very simple if you are not a citizen you don’t get to vote!

This is sour grapes on the administration, they didn't make the argument & now they're putting the census in jeopardy because they can't handle being dejected losers.

Trump realDonaldTrump admin's initial ratuional was a 'LIE', the court rejected the administration’s stated rationale as phony — or “contrived,” as Chief Justice Roberts put it Therefore 'all available options' are ALSO LIES

Please NO!!!

Ignorance of how many non-citizens live in this nation is not the answer. Since when is truth and justice advanced through suppression of knowledge and facts? 'You shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free'. Logic and wisdom demand this question be on the census.

Good.

OF TRUMP GETS AWAY WITH IGNORING THE DECISION AND AUTHORITY OF THE SUPREME COURT THEN OUR CONSTITUTION IS WORTHLESS AND SO WILL HAVE BECOME A DICTATORSHIP.

The question will not be included. SCOTUS cannot be overruled.

Judge: 'Do you have any new arguments to support your defense?' DOJ: 'No but we're working on it' How is that acceptable? How can you keep a case going when you have lost your argument and have nothing new to offer? Can I do something similar for my next speeding ticket?

The best course of action they can take, IMO, is to resign.

WELL IF EVERY JOB APPLICATION IN AMERICA CAN ASK IF YOU ARE A US CITIZEN SO CAN THE DARN CENSUS!!! THE FACT THAT THEY ARE TRYING TO SAY NO IS A REAL SHAME TO THIS COUNTRY

So does the Constitution mean nothing?

It would mean a lot if you could check out this charity for me! Great cause!

Romp aroom law
