Senator Joel Villanueva has warned companies and establishments to comply with the requirements of the Occupational Safety and Health Standards (OSHS) law that prioritizes the safety of workers.

Villanueva, chair of the Senate Committee on Labor, employment and Human Resources Development as he revealed that thousands of establishments in the country have already been slapped with some P950,000 in penalties for violating the Republic Act No. 11058.

Failure of an employer, contractor, or subcontractor to comply will be meted a fine ranging from P20,000 to P50,000. An administrative penalty worth P100,000 shall be imposed for repeating the offense and continued noncompliance. “The penalties should serve as a warning to companies that take the health and safety of their employees for granted. A workplace must always be a safe environment for its workers regardless of the industry,” Villanueva, sponsor of the law, said in a statement.
