Botswana has become the latest African country to decriminalise gay sex in a landmark case that ruled the law to be unconstitutional.

Landlocked between South Africa, Namibia and Zimbabwe, Botswana is considered one of the continent's most stable and democratic nations. The court's decision follows the southern African nation of Angola, which decriminalised same-sex activity and banned discrimination based on sexual orientation earlier this year.

Amnesty International called on other African nations to follow Botswana's example in"an exciting new era of acceptance." Before the ruling, LEGABIBO shared a comment attributed to President Mokgweetsi Masisi:"There are also many people of same-sex relationships in this country who have been violated and have also suffered in silence for fear of being discriminated. Just like other citizens, they deserve to have their rights protected".Botswana in recent years has taken other steps toward protecting LGBT rights.

"It is a day to celebrate pride, compassion and love," UNAIDS executive director Gunilla Carlsson said in a statement after Tuesday's ruling.

ABC News you couldn't frame this any better than that? Smdh. Botswana makes change.

Africa holds the dubious stat of being the world's home of AIDS. More than 10% of Botswana's population is infected. Just a coincidence of course.

Damn. Now this f*ckery comes to Africa. The ONE good colonial law and it gets overturned...at the behest of American neo-colonialism.
