Botswana has become the latest country to decriminalise gay sex after the High Court rejected sections of the penal code that punish same-sex relations

Activists celebrate outside the High Court in Gaborone, Botswana after the country became the latest country to decriminalise gay sex.More than two dozen countries in sub-Saharan Africa have laws decriminalising gay sex, often holdovers from colonial times. Earlier this year, the southern African nation of Angola decriminalised same-sex activity and banned discrimination based on sexual orientation.

Tuesday's ruling led to rejoicing from rights groups that had expressed frustration with the Kenyan decision last month, including ones in countries such as Nigeria, Uganda and Ghana where gay sex remains illegal. The right to privacy includes sexual orientation, which is innate and not a "fashion statement," the judges said.

Ahead of the ruling, LEGABIBO shared a comment attributed to President Mokgweetsi Masisi: "There are also many people of same-sex relationships in this country who have been violated and have also suffered in silence for fear of being discriminated. Just like other citizens, they deserve to have their rights protected."

New Zealand court halts first extradition to ChinaAn Auckland man wanted for murder in China has been spared extradition from New Zealand, in a decision his lawyer says has 'profound human rights importance, which will resonate through out the Common Law world' I wonder if Australia would do the same. Or perhaps Scombag would throw you into the lion's den at the first opportunity. Does this mean NZ protects murderers? Strange timing, with the extradition law about to be passed in HK.
