The trial continues for Jerry's handler.

The Greater Manchester Police officer unlawfully used his German Shepherd to ‘vent his contempt’ on suspects, it is alleged.

Prosecutor Jonathan Sandiford said on two of the occasions, Jerry was released lawfully at first but later Jackson allowed him to cause serious injuries when it was no longer necessary. In another two of the chases, he said Jerry was released unnecessarily – one victim already had a broken back and a broken leg and another was lying on the ground and was no threat. There was no reason to chase or arrest a fifth man, the court heard. All of the men allegedly attacked between August 2015 and September 2016 had criminal convictions and one, Lee Junior Walker, was a murderer.

‘He was in effect using gratuitous violence in order to satisfy those feelings of contempt or to teach the complainant a lesson for being a criminal, as Mr Jackson saw it.’Another GMP officer, Paul Lockett, 37, is in the dock with Jackson accused of misconduct in a public office and aiding and abetting one of his colleague’s alleged assaults.

Mr Sandiford said Lockett was present at the scene of the one of the incidents and did nothing to stop it or to report it to his superiors. If you have a story for our news team, email us at

Mohamed Noor trial: jury finds US police officer guilty of Justine Damond's murderJury of 10 men and two women took less than one day to reach their verdict in trial of Minneapolis police officer Of course they did. Not sure how anyone is meant to get any satisfaction out of this verdict after all these decades of white officers walking free for killing people of colour. But I guess that's justice hey. Yeah, well his name was Mohammed, his skin colored and she was white. So not surprising. Now show me a white cop who gets convicted of killing a Black man. White officer would have gone free. Or, slap on wrist with no jail time.

Police drivers to get increased protection from prosecution over fatal crashes under proposed lawHome Office says only 'justified and proportionate' driving would be protected under new legal test Don’t think this will surprise anyone Altering the law is not the answer – the law should be the law for all, if police tactics are authorised then that should be a mitigating factor not a legal get out from responsibility. A slippery slope, right wing dictators give police legal immunity not democracies Almost guarantees there will be more incidents..
