FULL INTERVIEW: Wentworth Liberal candidate Dave Sharma is branding himself as a ‘modern Liberal’ for the federal election in May as he pushes an image of being a forward-looking, pragmatic politician.

The former Australian ambassador to Israel has dismissed observations that he could be trying to distance himself from long-serving Liberals, such as Tony Abbott, telling Sky News Political Editor David Speers that he’s ‘clearly running as a Liberal candidate’. Mr Sharma contrasts himself with Labor, who he says has a ‘backwards-looking, retrograde agenda’, despite sharing a similar stance on the controversial Adani coal mine as Opposition Leader Bill Shorten.
