Former defence minister is suing Higgins over social media posts Reynolds says may have damaged her reputation

The former prime minister Scott Morrison could appear as a trial witness as the Liberal senator Linda Reynolds pursues Brittany Higgins over alleged defamatory remarks.

In his judgment in Bruce Lehrmann’s defamation case against Network Ten and journalist Lisa Wilkinson, Justice Michael Lee found the allegation of a political cover-up “was objectively short on facts but long on speculation”. Reynolds said outside court that Higgins’ claims had “taken a huge toll on my mental and my physical health, and that of my family and former staff”.
