One of Tony Mokbel’s henchmen has failed in his first attempt to have convictions overturned because of the involvement of Nicola Gobbo in his drug trafficking trial

One of Tony Mokbel’s henchmen has failed in his first attempt to have convictions overturned because of the involvement of barrister-turned-informer Nicola Gobbo in his drug trafficking trial.

The appeals court heard on Tuesday that Victoria Police had a team of barristers, solicitors and police officers sorting through and assessing tens of thousands of pages of documents related to Ms Gobbo’s contacts with police over various criminal cases.Cvetanovski was arrested in April 2006 over his involvement in a Mokbel-controlled drug lab in Strathmore, and was found guilty at trial after a man who was a drug cook gave evidence against him.

The Court of Appeal on Tuesday refused Cvetanovski’s application for bail, because it did not have any evidentiary material before it other than a letter from the current Director of Public Prosecutions, Kerri Judd, QC, that Ms Gobbo acted for the drug cook and that she was a police informer at the time.
