The mother of two young boys who drowned in Townsville's Ross River, Leanne Eatts, has faced court after being charged with their manslaughter.

A north Queensland mother charged with manslaughter over the drownings of her young sons has been refused bail.

The bodies of Barak Austral, 5, and Jhulio Sariago, 3, were found in Townsville's Ross River after wandering away from their home on February 25. Their mother Leanne Eatts was charged with manslaughter and serious drug offences and remanded to appear on May 17 during an appearance at Townsville Magistrates Court on Saturday morning.

The magistrate refused bail and said the safety of Eatts and the community could be at risk if she was released, the ABC reported. On Friday, Detective Dave Miles said Ms Eatts was solely responsible for her sons' preventable deaths on the day the boys wandered off alone and drowned."There is no way these boys should have been left the way they were, or ... allowed to go down to the river," he said.Det Miles said it was not an isolated event but a"systemic behaviour" by their mother and the lack of supervision.

That’s cruel. If she was white and the kids drowned in the family pool it would be a tragic accident As a parent you are responsible for the well being of your children This should be a wake up call to anyone wanting to bring a soul into the world - if you can not care for that child correctly and be responsible then you will be held accountable
