Several California lawmakers are proposing legislation that would require President Donald Trump and other presidential candidates to release their tax returns as a precondition for getting on the ballot.

LOS ANGELES – Several California Democratic lawmakers are proposing legislation that would require President Donald Trump and other presidential candidates to release their tax returns as a precondition for getting on the statewide ballot.

A similar measure, Senate Bill 149, passed the state legislature in 2017 but was vetoed by then-Gov. Jerry Brown, a Democrat who raised concerns it might be unconstitutional. Also, Brown at the time warned the legislation"sets a 'slippery slope' precedent." California's proposed bill would require presidential candidates to release the last five years of their tax returns to appear on the ballot in the nation's most populous state. The Golden State's presidential primary was moved up to March 3, 2020, or Super Tuesday, following a state law passed in 2017.

CNBC California can kiss my downey ass....

CNBC To hell with his taxes I want to know what the hell happened to his neck!?

CNBC I think Congress should reveal their income, and explain how on a government salary they have become multimillionaires. I think that Congress should not have a lifetime health plan, like the rest of us! I think there should be TERM LIMITS!

curtab7 CNBC Dont need California to get to 270, Republicans dont have a chance at winning the liberal state so why bother being on the ballot. Just write the Republicans name in if that's who you chose.

CNBC Good .

CNBC Blah, blah: we hear that every two years.

CNBC Another example of why the electoral college is a valid concept. The liberal left bastion of California is now trying to influence national elections. What's next, illegal immigrants voting, 14 year olds voting?

CNBC Hey why don’t they show us how it’s done, by releasing their tax returns!

CNBC States can’t interfere with an election... this is the exact same thing as not allowing legal voters to vote by some means, like the Dems always complain about. This is prohibiting the people from casting their vote. realDonaldTrump POTUS WhiteHouse will be filing suit now.

CNBC Yes! Other states must follow!

CNBC Let's start with Congress. They are in office for decades.

CNBC Can we see a list of Congress you became millionaires after getting in office and how? And those who used slush funds to pay of sexual harassment charges super thanks

CNBC No way don't vote for Democrats

CNBC Great should be in all 50 states!!!

CNBC And... be honest, loyal, faithful, kind, lawful, sweet, calm, animal lover, nature lover, vegan, never ever consume drugs or drink, wait... does that person exist? 😂🤣

CNBC Oh please. All because of one lost election? This is not even something that would have come up if the other would have happened. Sure we’d been upset but we wouldn’t have let it control our lives. This is why nothing gets done in our country, too much of this crap!

CNBC 🙄because tax returns are so important because...has anyone figured out why since it is only a recent thing?

CNBC LMAO!! Tax returns... Very important stuff. The left has gone full rtard.

CNBC Start enforcing your own state laws before you dictate national election laws...

CNBC SUPREME COURT

CNBC Should be a federal law.

CNBC Well if a Presidents proof of citizenship isn't required (Obama)....who cares about a tax return.

CNBC

CNBC Why don't they propose term limits for all offices of the government?

CNBC “Presidential”. Why don’t they lead by example? 🤔 🤔 🤔

CNBC Been said before, why track Russian conspiracies when a simple charge of tax fraud would suffice That's how the FBI got Al Capone. Murders too hard to prove

CNBC Funny

CNBC Californica? Screw Californica.

CNBC LOVE Cali!

CNBC Good. Add also any possible conflict of interests.

CNBC No more Pig-in-a-Poke presidents!!!

CNBC What if I told you that people on both sides of the aisle have illegally lined their pockets with cash and don’t pay taxes.

CNBC Tricky Trump is NOT releasing tax records bc Satan has convinced him to do something the God is NOT in favor. When Satan is finished with using TT and turns his back on him, then all that has been done in the dark will come to light; tax info wb revealed✝️✝️✝️

CNBC These corrupt career politicians getting wealth way beyond their paychecks let’s me know they’ve learned how to hide money from any irs filing.

CNBC Let’s start with members of Congress who became millionaires on 179 k a year.

CNBC Oh Democrats, you just can’t accept that Hillary lost and that Mueller just declared him innocent.

CNBC Yes !!

CNBC BernieSanders does NOT like that at all !!!

CNBC It should be made a federal law. One thing that idiot has done for the nation - when he’s gone, the govt can fix the loop holes so his ilk can never come to power again. 2 things must be done - destroy the idiot and ditch Mitch

CNBC yawn

CNBC I don’t need my state telling me who I can and cannot vote for. I don’t like the way the politicians run California, much less have them make it hard to vote for anyone I may like. Sounds like voter fraud to me. Run the state you Nitwits.

CNBC The only states that will do this are solid blue... you see how democratic policies tend to waste time and money to accomplish nothing?

CNBC dnc is so deparate they are really making themselves look like desparate fools! TheDemocrats don't believe no collusion , then they want 16 yo to vote! Now the worst of TheDemCoalition whacky california ones wsnt this cause they know realDonaldTrump is going to win again!

CNBC This man always escapes the trouble, if that happens, he will overcome it too.

CNBC Those wacky Democrats in CA will do anything to fix an election. Give illegal aliens the right to vote. Allow 3rd party collection of mail in votes. Gerry rig candidate requirements.

CNBC WA did this, many States should follow suit!

CNBC Better late than never. But does it still have to go through corrupted Senate? SpeakerPelosi HouseDemocrats chicagotribune SenSchumer ABC SRuhle maddow RepAdamSchiff RepCummings RepJerryNadler CBSNews business CNN washingtonpost CREWcrew JohnBrennan GenMhayden

CNBC Why always CA? They are such freaks. It is not a requirement. We have an IRS If a candidate is doing something wrong regarding their finances and taxes. Why not have the speaker release hers. All politicians. Where does it end? It is all political and nothing else.

CNBC Yawn

mpo619 CNBC Let’s get on it.

CNBC Half the people don’t even know how to read their own. What do tax returns prove? Not in the constitution.

CNBC You can’t, but if you did it sure will backfire on Bernie Sanders, he’s a multimillionaire and hasn’t even worked a real job, he’s gotten rich off of the taxpayers and his backdoor deals

CNBC Can’t wait to view the democrats taxes! Let all the investigations begin!

CNBC Socialists lawmakers in Cal love power. The constitution does not require what these corrupt Dems unfairly demand. Glad to be an X-Dem.

CNBC Yeah. And that'll be enforced just as soon as California enforces all the federal laws currently on the books. LiberalismIsAMentalDisorder WalkAway Unhinged AmericaFirst Trump MAGA

mugrogue CNBC Yes!!

CNBC Should be law everwhere

AngeleStar11 CNBC Bahahahahahahahahah. California enjoys getting pounded by realDonaldTrump .

CNBC California should just enforce the laws it and the Federal Government already have. That would be a great start.

CNBC Love it.

CNBC This isn’t news. It’s a fiction. If the “journalist” did any research, they’d have learned states don’t control federal elections and can’t create ballot conditions. If they do it’s unlikely they’d survive judicial scrutiny - but don’t let facts get in the way your agenda.

CNBC Well duh, we have the craziest authoritarian politicians who have no regard for the Constitution. This won't end well.

CNBC California lawmakers should make a law that says they must release a monthly list of all contributor to there campaign fund . Publish in paper and the internet. On themselves and presidential candidates

CNBC Yes please!

CNBC Washington state started the trend

CNBC What about a height requirement

CNBC Stats are part of the United States in the United States therefore it’s a U.S. election and should not have a choice in whom the people in that state can or cannot vote for.

CNBC I would rather see a candidate that gets a refund because they don't make much money, than a tax cheater that makes more in an hour than I make in an entire year. Of course, any potential candidate should be proud to show their tax returns.

CNBC

CNBC Unconstitutional. Compelled speech.

CNBC Guess after Mueller report fiasco time for the haters to fall back and rehash

CNBC And the Mueller report.

CNBC Well if some states do not use the Electoral College, their votes shouldn't count in the election! This should be a new law. Seems fair to me.👌 🖖🇺🇸🇮🇱🏳️‍🌈

CNBC The states are the only way around a corrupt federal branch.

CNBC Lawmakers or Newsom?

CNBC EVERY STATE SHOULD DO THIS. NO QUESTION! No considering it. Do it!

CNBC ummmm when did CA become the dictator of laws that apply to the current & future POTUS? - CA needs to enforce the CA laws that apply to all the criminals here... before creating 'new laws' - that apply to someone who EARNED their vote to be POTUS.

CNBC The left-wing media is corrupt.

CNBC Worst media in US history.

CNBC Supreme Court will strike it down. Next.

CNBC Hoping places in play--Ohio, Pennsylvania, etc--follow suit.

CNBC all states should do this

CNBC GOP doesn’t need Cali to win, they vote blue.

CNBC It SHOULD be the law, but never needed to be until Trump.

CNBC All for this

CNBC WA has one in the works! Go for it.

CNBC The integrity of the office of President should always be first and foremost among candidates. A candidate who hides his past cannot be trusted to be honest in the future. Mr Trump should release his returns, as should any other candidate for 2020.

CNBC If there was a problem, the IRS would be taking action. That is not happening. If these crack pots can get Trumps private, personal information, they can get everyone else's too. This has to be stopped. An armed uprising against the out of control politicians may be required.

OasisThemepark CNBC It needs to be requisite.

CNBC No one speaks about the taxes because many democrat leaders evade taxes

CNBC Let's go DEMOCRATS let's go. Let's bring the strong game on!

CNBC I approve this idea. A President should be transparent with his people. When someone is planning to run for President they should be prepared to no longer have anything hidden. It comes with the job.

CNBC yes. it has to be all .

CNBC 'We have less journalists these days and more reporters. Journalists look for facts, they dig and investigate for news stories and the truth to present to the people. Reporters just repeat what someone else tells them and maybe add their own opinion between commercial breaks.'

CNBC Another silly law to be struck down by the SC

CNBC Everyone in office should have to do this.

CNBC Give California back to Mexico. Andthatsnofluff

CNBC I will help with getting signatures for that...

CNBC Trump should publish all his tax records.

CNBC I always wonder if Trump wants his tax returns kept secret because it shows conflict with foreign interests or if it simply shows he has lied about his wealth. Or both.

CNBC Tax returns are a matter of privacy.

CNBC YES this should become a LAW.

CNBC And a mental health screening
