By Carol Morello Carol Morello National reporter focusing on foreign policy and State Department Email Bio Follow March 26 at 12:26 PM Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said Tuesday that he is reducing the U.S. contribution to the Organization of American States, an ally in the pressure campaign on Venezuela, because of its advocacy of abortion.
Pompeo said he had ordered the full enforcement of a 1981 law, the Siljander Amendment, that prohibits the use of U.S. funds to lobby for or against abortion. The Trump administration has reinstated and expanded the Mexico City policy, a Reagan-era measure that prohibits U.S. funding for organizations that provide, advocate or even mention legal and safe abortions. In practice, it has been put into force during Republican administrations and rescinded during Democratic administrations.
“This is decent. This is right,” Pompeo said. “And I am proud to serve in an administration that protects the least among us.” Pompeo dismissed that argument as “just wrong” and said the contention they were setting up conditions for more abortions as “perverse on its face.”
Abortion on demand is legal in Israel and even paid for by government health insurance. How about we cut aid to Israel? Pompeii is a damn hypocrite.
If he feels that compelled to fight abortions with $$$ then you would expect him to withdraw support for Israel until they too ban abortions!
