When state legislatures draw the boundary lines for voting districts, the majority party typically comes up with a map designed to keep itself in power. But can that become so blatantly political that it violates the Constitution?

, the majority party typically comes up with a map designed to keep itself in power. But can that become so blatantly political that it violates the Constitution? And how can the courts tell how much partisanship in politics is too much?an issue that the justices have so far found impossible to answer

The court hears two challenges to redrawn boundaries for congressional districts that gave an advantage to the party in power — Republicans in North Carolina and Democrats in Maryland. In both cases, groups of voters sued and lower courts declared the maps to be unconstitutional partisan gerrymanders.

In Maryland, Republican voters challenged the redrawing of Maryland's 6th Congressional District in 2011, which allowed Democrats to take over a seat in the US House that Republican Roscoe Bartlett held for two decades. He had been re-elected in 2010 by a 28 percent margin. After the redistricting, he lost by 21 percent.

During its last term, the court again dodged the partisan gerrymandering question, citing procedural shortcomings in cases from Wisconsin and Maryland. This time, the issue is presented more directly. But with Kennedy gone, replaced by the more conservative Brett Kavanaugh, it's likely the Supreme Court will conclude that this is a political matter for state legislatures to resolve, not the courts.

HENRY30126252 Good luck with that.

What?

Of course they can, Democrats did that in NC until the Republicans got control. Both parties are guilty, but the the Democrats just cry louder screaming it's unfair, it's unfair, we need to change the rules.

It was never a problem when the Democrats did it. Weird?

Whoa, actual meaningful reporting?!

How white of them.

First Look is already characterizing Democrats as 'others'. Reporter probably isn't even aware he is bigoted. Disgusting the anchors feeding preference to Trump and friends. Is this hat they teach at Journalism school these days? Rupert Murdock owned? Mercer owned?

Democrats simply cannot be trusted with one single thing. If all Americans genuinely want to see our country succeed in a big way,we have to keep Democrat far away from all 3 branches of government. NoMoreDemocrats

Yes?

When Republicans do it, the Left calls it ‘gerrymandering’. But when the Democrats do exactly the same, the Left instead call it “Redistricting”.

In California one-party system uses underhanded techniques to shift election results. They trick independent voters to sign under the AIP (a different party), harvest ballots, unilaterally change words on approved citizen initiatives to load questions... to name several. Tyranny

Can fake investigations be so blatantly political that is breaks the law?

Opinion | Republicans keep pushing the Supreme Court toward overturning Roe v. WadeOpinion: Republicans keep pushing the Supreme Court towards overturning Roe They know perfectly well that depriving women of life, liberty and the ability to have control of their futures will be unpopular once red-state women realize that they are being sold on the idea that sexual slavery is a Republican policy. I hope they at least ban abortion after 12 weeks. Abortion is murder.

Supreme Court to consider whether Beltway sniper Lee Boyd Malvo deserves new sentencingBetween Sept. 5 and Oct. 22, 2002, John Allen Muhammad and Malvo killed 10 people and wounded others in sniper attacks in Virginia, Maryland and the District of Columbia. Sure, give him the death sentence and save the taxpayers the expense of supporting him for another 20 or more years. We must allow ourselves to find root cause for mass killings by guns. And accept the fact for what it is. I ask myself, why is it 90% White Males and White Supremacist emboldened, American Citizens? no

Is Ruth sleeping again? If American citizens can be prosecuted for using stolen Social Security numbers, it is ludicrous to think that illigal immigrants cannot be prosecuted for the same crime!! Is that a stuffed head of RBG? 🤔

Supreme Court agrees to hear deadly DC sniper shootings caseThe Supreme Court agreed to consider Virginia’s plea to reinstate the life-without-parole sentence of a man who as a teenager participated in sniper shootings that terrorized the Washington, D.C., region in 2002 While this crime was particularly egregious, as a 'child' who was highly influenced by an adult and not fully formed, how responsible is he for his actions? The science is not clear on such cases. He did not participate. He murdered people. Glossing over this is an embarrassment. He was young. He was manipulated by the older man. The state is treating him unfairly.
