Jozef Puska has told his own murder trial that he was stabbed by a man who he then saw attack Ashling Murphy.
Under cross examination he later said he had lied to gardai on a number of occasions and that he had asked someone to burn the clothes he was wearing that day. He said the man attacked him, that he didn’t know him, and that the attacker started shouting at him, before pushing him to the ground. Mr Puska today told the trial that he had stood up and pulled his leg really hard, and that he then shouted - and Ms Stack started running.
Asked about his next movements, Mr Puska said he “jumped towards the field” and continued towards the town through fields.Mr Bowman then asked the accused about whether his alleged attacker had said anything to him. Mr Puska said when he woke up he saw lights and beep sounds, and he went away from them because he was “scared.”
"I stayed with my parents. I cannot recall everything. They were trying to ask me what happened to me. I didn't want to tell them,” Mr Puska said. He said he recalls that on the first day, the 13th of January, that “investigators” were talking to him.

Puska tells trial he and Ashling Murphy were attackedThe man accused of the murder of Ashling Murphy has told his trial that he and Ms Murphy were attacked by another man beside the Grand Canal in Tullamore and that he tried to help Ms Murphy with her injuries before leaving the scene because he was scared, shocked and stressed.
