'She is a hero' Max was given Keira's heart after she was fatally injured in a car accident ❤️ Now a new law in England that presumes consent for organ donation has been named after them both. This is their story [tap to expand]

Government ministers argue the change in the rules in England could save up to 700 lives a year by increasing the number of organs available.Keira Ball, from Devon, was nine when she was involved in a car accident with her mum and brother. Her father Joe was approached by the organ donor consent team after doctors in Bristol confirmed they could not save her life.

Keira's organs were used to save four lives, among them Max Johnson, then also aged nine, who received her heart. At the time of Keira's accident, Max was in hospital in Newcastle with heart failure following a viral infection. He was being kept alive with a mechanical pump. The operation was a success and Max, now 11, is doing well, although the anti-rejection drugs he must take every day sometimes make him quite poorly.

And that's how it should be, you don't take the organs with you when you die so give them to someone who needs them

How long before a doctor gives up saving someone because they need an organ donation for a wealthy client ?

A presumption of consent is a dangerous road.

Heartbreaking, beyond belief heartbreaking for the parents of Keira, a situation I could not comprehend. Such a beautiful little girl. Lovely to see young max being able to live his life, so so so sad but so wonderful at the same time. God bless both families.

Don’t agree that the family can still refuse the organ donation. If you are on the list it should stand.

Max and Keira's organ law set to passUnder it, people in England will be presumed to consent to organ donation unless they opt out. So now the state will be able to hack people's bodies parts out, without even having the people's consent, what a dreadful society. If Christopher Chope objects to this I will personally kick him square in the balls. This is the right move. Dead, our organs are of no use to us, but they can help sustain life for others. If you want to be selfish - opt out.
