Breaking news: A federal appeals court late Wednesday temporarily blocked a Texas judge’s decision to suspend the FDA’s approval of mifepristone. The ruling keeps the abortion pill available for now, but imposes strict limits on access.

in Kacsmaryk’s Amarillo, Tex., courthouse seeking to reverse the FDA’s approval of mifepristone as safe and effective, including in states where abortion rights are protected. The attorneys for the groups argued that mifepristone is unsafe — a claim that has been rejected by medical experts — and that the FDA did not follow proper protocol when approving its use.

in 2000. The agency has subsequently taken steps to loosen restrictions on how the pill is administered. Both groups acknowledged in the hearing that there is no precedent for a court to order the suspension of a long-approved medication.

Now it's in hands like these...

I think men had better start connecting the dots here, If they are making pregnancy so risky in this country and the woman's life/health that insignificant, then the sex act itself is just too risky. Women need to use their power!

rweingarten Standing in line to murder babies, 700,000 each year in the US alone. Most countries call this genocide of a whole class of people who have no say so nor can vote.

Good news, but the rest of the ruling is nonsensical and unconstitutional.

Sounds fair

This action by 5th Circuit would still roll back mifepristone access, favor ideology & pseudoscience over facts, harm patients, & establish dangerous precedent of judges without scientific training overriding FDA expertise. My thread on our amicus brief:

Dems will do anything to kill those babies

Limiting access is almost the same thing. Welcome to Talibanistan.

Did the Supreme Court not put abortion laws in the hands of each state? Should federal judges be ruling on such matters?

America becomes more your crazy racist uncle with each passing day. briantylercohen

The order from the conservative U.S. Court of Appeals for the 5th Circuit came after the Justice Department and the drug manufacturer on Monday asked it to put on hold the decision by the judge in Texas.

Our justice system watches kids die in schools because this country has no common sense gun rules! A generation is misplaced because gun violence happens every damn day! Gen Z will ascend to help bring this country back to normal again!

Court preserves access to abortion drug, tightens rulesA federal appeals court has preserved access to an abortion drug for now but under tighter rules that would allow the drug only to be dispensed up to seven weeks, not 10, and not by mail. The drug, mifepristone, was approved for use by the Food and Drug Administration more than two decades ago. It’s used in combination with a second drug, misoprostol. The 5th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in New Orleans ruled Wednesday just before midnight. By a 2-1 vote a panel of three judges narrowed for now a decision by a lower court judge in Texas that had completely blocked the FDA’s approval of the drug following a lawsuit by mifepristone’s opponents. Why? It still feels like a Republican win with those rules. Some women don't know that they are pregnant at 7 weeks. L 1 clown still in a robe.

DOJ asks appeals court to pause judge's 'extraordinary and unprecedented' ruling on abortion drug mifepristoneThe Justice Department asked a federal appeals court Monday to halt a judge's ruling last week that would suspend access nationwide to the abortion drug mifepristone. Good, this is so crazy, a delusional judge without any scientific evidence at all claims a necessary and validated drug is dangerous! And then Texas legislators threatens to defund FDA if they don't accept to cave for the blackmail! This is simply criminal behaviour!

US appeals court partially blocks federal judge's ruling on abortion drug mifepristoneJUST IN: A federal U.S. appeals court has partially blocked an unprecedented ruling by a single federal judge in Texas that reversed the FDA's approval of the widely-used abortion drug mifepristone. Why only partially? Why does abc treat the 'decision' from the radical right-wing Judge from TX like it's now law? Since when does the judiciary have authority to override the FDA's review and approval process for medications?

Justice Department appeals Texas abortion pill orderThe Justice Department on Monday appealed a Texas court ruling that would halt approval of a drug used in the most common method of abortion in the U.S., calling the decision “extraordinary and unprecedented.' If allowed to stand, the order issued last week by U.S. District Judge Matthew Kacsmaryk could restrict access to the abortion medication mifepristone as early as Friday, unsettling abortion providers less than a year after the reversal of Roe v. Wade already dramatically curtailed abortion access.
