BREAKING: A federal appeals court has preserved access to an abortion drug for now but under tighter rules that would allow the drug only to be dispensed up to seven weeks, not 10, and not by mail.

FILE - A patient prepares to take the first of two pills for a medication abortion during a visit to a clinic in Kansas City, Kan., on Wednesday, Oct. 12, 2022. Some abortion clinics are fielding lots of calls from patients since a Friday, April 7, 2023 court ruling threatened the availability of a main drug used in medication abortion, mifepristone. Patients are concerned about whether they can still get the care they need.

AUSTIN, Texas — A federal appeals court has preserved access to an abortion drug for now but under tighter rules that would allow the drug only to be dispensed up to seven weeks, not 10, and not by mail.

They don't have the authority to make such a ruling.

This is still dumb.

Oh look. Another completely arbitrary restriction on vital women's medications. I'm shocked.

This is ABSURD. Since when should an appeals court judge make decisions for medical professionals. Just insane.

so ... UPS is ok then?

This is bullshit. Most women don't even they that they are pregnant by 7 weeks. This is fascism control. What is happening to land of the free? We are not free anymore. America is a joke.

Why 7? Do judges sideline as scientists in the FDA? And why not by mail? Do the scientist judges know something that the FDA doesn't know? Legislating from the bench. It has to stop and these judges have to be held accountable.

Based on what? How does reducing when it can be used so much that it’s almost useless help? Are those extra three weeks super dangerous suddenly? What medically credentials do they hold that gives them knowledge about this medication?

End abortion, dignity to human life.

clarencehilljr Abortion is wrong

'The two judges who voted to tighten restrictions, Kurt Engelhardt and Andrew Oldham, are both appointees of former President Donald Trump.' The Federalist Society really used their puppet to 'good' effect. ('Libertarian?' Baloney.)

Fuck that. Mifepristone only used within 7 weeks is pointless. Many people do not even know they are pregnant by 7 weeks. The added, 'can't be sent by mail' line is pointless given Biden's directive not to enforce Comstock. This is a bs ruling & equivalent to an abortion ban.

Just let me live my life

libturds act like this is some kind of wonder drug... ok maybe they'll become exticnt if they keep taking it 🤡🌏🍼👶

Another step closer to Gilead. American women, we'll keep our border open as long as we can.....

Nope. All fascism needs is for centrists to keep splitting the difference. The first judge just made up reasons to overrule the FDA & pull the drug. We don’t reward that.

Sounds like women in America are pretty boned still

Terrible. Same old playbook. Get the radical Mullah to rule way over the line. 5th circuit then pulls it back a little. Rather than the Mullah ruling that way and 5th agreeing. Makes it look slightly jurisprudential, rather than completely theocratical.

Why? I am prolife but exactly the opposite..this pill could END the abortion debate..put abortion clinics out of business of death. Make the pill readily available in the FIRST week and cheap$$.

Meanwhile SenFeinstein is awol preventing all judges from being approved by the senate 🤬

pikaso_me screenshot this

its a fücking pill that gives you your period, just let them have it as much as possible

Going to go to Supreme Court and the whole thing will be thrown out with either Kavanaugh and/or Gorsch joining the Liberals plus Roberts. It will be a calculated ruling by Kav and/or Gorsch to attempt to regain legitimacy in the public eye.

That's not how the law works. 'Okay we don't really know if you're guilty or not, so instead of 20 years in prison we will just have you sentenced to 11 years'

By a 2-1 vote a panel of three judges narrowed for now a decision by a lower court judge in Texas that had completely blocked the FDA’s approval of the drug following a lawsuit by abortion drug's opponents.

You won’t need that pill if you stop raw dogging it and use a condom. And condoms can be mailed.

1 clown still in a robe.

Why? It still feels like a Republican win with those rules. Some women don't know that they are pregnant at 7 weeks.

DOJ asks appeals court to pause judge's 'extraordinary and unprecedented' ruling on abortion drug mifepristoneThe Justice Department asked a federal appeals court Monday to halt a judge's ruling last week that would suspend access nationwide to the abortion drug mifepristone. Good, this is so crazy, a delusional judge without any scientific evidence at all claims a necessary and validated drug is dangerous! And then Texas legislators threatens to defund FDA if they don't accept to cave for the blackmail! This is simply criminal behaviour!

US appeals court partially blocks federal judge's ruling on abortion drug mifepristoneJUST IN: A federal U.S. appeals court has partially blocked an unprecedented ruling by a single federal judge in Texas that reversed the FDA's approval of the widely-used abortion drug mifepristone. Why only partially? Why does abc treat the 'decision' from the radical right-wing Judge from TX like it's now law? Since when does the judiciary have authority to override the FDA's review and approval process for medications?

Abortion Pill Rulings in Conflict: What Happens Next?WASHINGTON (AP) — The Texas case that could cut off access to the most commonly used abortion medication has started on a path through the legal system that could quickly lead to the Supreme Court. The drug, mifepristone, was approved for use by the Food and Drug Administration more than two decades ago. It’s used in combination with a second drug, misoprostol. Since its approval, mifepristone has been used by more than 5 million women to safely end their pregnancies and today more than half of women who end a pregnancy rely on the drug, the Justice Department said.

Abortion pill rulings in conflict: What happens next? The Biden administration on Monday asked a federal appeals court to allow women to continue to be able to access to the most commonly used abortion drug in the U.S. while a lawsuit over it plays out. The drug, mifepristone, was approved for use by the Food and Drug Administration more than two decades ago. But on Friday a federal judge in Texas blocked the FDA’s approval of the drug following a lawsuit by the pill’s opponents. The far-reaching ruling, which the judge put on hold for a week to allow for an appeal, could affect access to the drug in every state. You ignore the unelected judge's ruling by decree and keep giving out pills. Old enough to remember when the GOP didn’t want the government in the doctors office with you. My how times have changed. it’s THIS and not Opioids that has murdered and continues to murder, millions upon millions while simultaneously destroying families and futures but yea…ok…women…sure…lmao
