Republican Sen. Lisa Murkowski of Alaska said on Sunday that she will not support nominating a successor to Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg on the Supreme Court before the 2020 presidential election. The announcement makes her the second Senate Republican to publicly take that position. "For weeks, I have stated that I would not support taking up a potential Supreme Court vacancy this close to the election," Murkowski."Sadly, what was then a hypothetical is now our reality, but my position has not changed. I did not support taking up a nomination eight months before the 2016 election to fill the vacancy created by the passing of Justice [Antonin] Scalia.
Courage!
She will lose her next election and that will be great for not doing her job. I would be fired if I refused to do my job so should she!
Thank you, Senator lisamurkowski!
Ms. Murkowski had better understand will that get constituents have elected her to represent THEIR wishes and not hers. Alaskans want a Trump-nominated confirmation immediately without any wait. Her opinion does not matter, the people's does.
But is it written in stone because we've had our hopes up before and both her and Susan Collins have always folded underneath the pressure
Agree. Consistency is a fundamental value and it reflects on each individual
Thank you lisamurkowski for doing the right thing 🇺🇸
My god, there is a Republican with character.
We shall see. She always questions things and then votes straight Republican. If she keeps up her record, in the end she will vote what ever the Republican Party tells her to, and she will. She is really good at pretending to care though.
Oh wow a moral and ethical Senator...
Give it a week for her staff to come up with an explanation on why she changed her mind.
Alaskans are not happy with rino
Vote that deep state agent OUT
Thank you!
This has nothing to do with principles, and everything to do with politics. Sen. Murkowski is in for a tough race. She's playing it safe.
Remember that if her vote is needed to confirm a judge before the election, she will absolutely, positively change her position. It's all posturing and trying to make people think there's a chance they won't name someone. They will, as that's how they will steal the election.
They all said that until it flip flop.
Like that's a big surprise.She's a RINO...if even that.
If she can't do her job as a senator, she should resign.
Thank you Senator Murkowski
Good job Lisa Murkowski.
Yes we all heard her exactly two minutes after it was announced RBG had passed.
Their opposition to a nomination is meaningless. They only must vote up or down based on the qualifications of the nominee.
Traitor FillTheSeat
sadly the Republicans lack the party discipline of the Democrats. you know in similar circumstances not one Democrat would do this type of thing
I’ll believe it when I see it!
Where is Romney on this?
hope
her and SenatorCollins will hem and haw and buckle like they always do.
Doesn’t mean she won’t vote for one on November 4th.
She said she would vote with the Democrats before and did not keep her word. Cannot trust her!
Not appointing a successor before the election means nothing. Not appointing a successor during 45's lame duck period means everything. Insist they commit to the latter.
So the Alaskan Republic is going to join other socialist representatives and do her best to destroy middle Class American in the rest of the US
She's a true Dem anyway. I gave seen a bunch of Republicans act so needy. Just follow the Constitution or get the hell out.
SenatorRomney Where do you stand? ChuckGrassley please do the right thing. Fair is fair.
“Republican”
The wording is very careful. So if Biden wins then she would still be fine holding the vote before Biden takes office.
The fact that lisamurkowski only made a statement and did not answer questions about how she would vote is more telling than the self serving statement.
but lisamurkowski has not ruled out voting to confirm a Trump nominee in the lame duck if he loses.
The question really is however, will she vote in a lame duck session for trumps court pick anyway? She cannot be trusted!!!!
Can you forfeit your salary also - until you decide to vote?
Get her to commit to not voting to confirm until after inauguration!
This is just posturing. They have played this game before. Only counts if 4 Republicans oppose. Mitch will 'allow' some to say no to help them with re-election prospects
Dereliction of duty. Impeach her.
Two more needed.
They need to commit until after the inauguration not the election. This is meaningless babble otherwise
Doesn’t she always do this and eventually folds (along with Collins)?
You won’t be re-elected anyway. You are not a true republican. Do your job and vote for what you know is right.
Country Party. I fundamentally believe a sitting President has a right to nominate for a vacant seat regardless of when the vacancy occurs. But after senatemajldr held up Merrick Garland claiming the American people should weigh in, I believe he should be consistent & wait.
ill bet anyone reading this 50$ USD she backtracks before friday.
She doesn’t know why shy was elected!!
Thank you so much lisamurkowski for keeping your word. I truly and deeply appreciate it. Putting aside party politics to do the right thing is so essential, bless you!
So tired of these assholes that say this shit and then cave in the end. Step up or keep your mouth shut
McConnell has the votes
Her own party members here disagrees
So what. Senator Graham said he wouldn’t either. Now he will. Their words mean nothing. Literally nothing. They have exactly zero issues lying to everyone.
she will not support the process being started and she will not stop the process once it’s started and she will vote in favor of confirmation at the end of the process
They need to say “I will VOTE AGAINST” bringing the vote before the Senate.
Murkowski’s gonna Murkowski, but as long as she is a “yes” vote in about a month for Trump’s nominee, then all’s good! FillTheSeat
No promise to wait for after the inauguration. Empty promise.
Thank you for making the fair and moral decision
Your turn MittRomney speek up.
Will you stand by your words ChuckGrassley SenJoniErnst not holding my breath
They'll both still vote to approve whomever Trump nominates and we all know it
'before the election' That doesn't mean not during the lame duck period if Trump loses. Collins said the same thing. I don't trust any of them. RBGLegacy
What she thinks about nominating is irrelevant. Her job is to vote up or down on a nominee.
The tweet contradicts the quote enough to expect NPR of lying to us.
Dear god I’m heaven please stop falling for this! This is NOT moderation or being consistent UNLESS she refuses to confirm before the next senate is seated Without that, this is *worse*she wants to gin-up voters with the threat of losing a seat, but still confirm even if Ds win
Thats because shes most likely a closet democrat!
Let's just see how she votes.
Good, she’s doing the bare minimum to prevent forever being branded a hypocritical stooge by history
She will not vote yes to a female nominee? Trouble
Once again this lady proves she is more Democrats than Republicans
Wow
they ALL took that position in 2016. 62% of the country agrees with her, only 23% does not.
Stop giving this attention. When she actually votes No, then report it like it’s a miracle.
Doesn’t matter if she doesn’t support because of her thinking, the Constitution states otherwise. The supreme court nominee voting isn't bonding with the 2020Election
Believe it when I see it Susan Collins says things like this, too.
Finally some morals from the GOP
For Susan Collins, “should” is a weasel word meaning ”I will vote Trump’s way if the Rs need my vote. Otherwise I will vote with Dems cause it won’t matter to Republicans and I can look centrist”. Susan’s time honored scam.
She’s never kept her word before. Why would she start now?
