Crown legal boss 'unaware' of concerns over junket operators, inquiry hears | pwhatch

Counsel assisting the inquiry, Naomi Sharp, SC, on Monday grilled Mr Preston about a full-page advertisement that was signed by Crown's board of directors and placed in some newspapers in response to the expose which claimed to "[set] the record straight in the face of a deceitful campaign against Crown".

Mr Preston was head of legal services and responsible for compliance at Crown’s Perth casino including overseeing junkets at the time of the 2014 report. But he said he could not recall if he watched or was made aware of the program or if it triggered any kind of internal review at the Perth or Melbourne casinos.

“I don’t recall specifically," Mr Preston responded. "I may well have been made aware of it but I do not recall specifically.”broadcast further allegations about Crown junkets' links to organised crime in 2017, Mr Preston was chief legal officer of the whole of Crown's Australian casino business. He said Crown was reviewing all of its junket partners at the time in the fallout of the arrest of 19 Crown staff in China in October 2016.

pwhatch great to see some humour brought into proceedings - oh, you mean we are meant to believe it? If he was Pinocchio he would have driven his nose Through the breadth of the casino buildings.

pwhatch who is the bigger criminal ..James Packer-backed casino who were caught red handing cheating millions of people rigging the pokie machines or the government who did not send anyone to jail for it as they also indirectly benefited from the loot?

pwhatch Unaware? I believe Packer is not stupid. I hope he doesn’t think we are stupid.

pwhatch No surprise this was written by a noted Shane Richardson supporter. I don’t support your views Andrew however I respect your right to write about them.
