BREAKING: The teenager found guilty of murdering law student Laa Chol will spend at least 15 years behind bars for the 2018 knife attack

A brawl broke out in the Supreme Court on Friday after the teenager found guilty of murdering law student Laa Chol was jailed for at least 20 years.

Security guards rushed into the courtroom after the brawl between relatives of Ms Chol and her murderer, with women crying hysterically.The two families were separated by security guards, before one woman who appeared to be overcome with grief collapsed in the hallway outside the courtroom. The 18-year-old killer, who cannot be named for legal reasons, stabbed 19-year-old Ms Chol in the heart outside an Airbnb apartment in July 2018.In the Supreme Court on Friday, Justice Stephen Kaye said the teenager had taken the life of a ‘‘caring young woman’’ who has been a pillar of strength to her now devastated family.‘‘Your senseless and vicious crimes have deprived her of her most basic right, her life,’’ he said.‘‘Your actions are utterly cowardly and callous.
