Lawyers who have failed to comply with the mandatory continuing legal education will soon see their names printed in two newspapers of general circulation.

The Supreme Court has allowed the names of lawyers who have failed to comply with the mandatory continuing legal education to be published in two newspapers of general circulation.

Aside from allowing those lawyers’ names to be published, the SC also said that they will be given 60 days to present proof that they have complied with the MCLE or else “they shall be considered as delinquent and shall not be permitted to practice law.”Until now, all Philippine lawyers have been required to undergo a, pursuant to Canon 5 of the Code of Professional Responsibility.

“Continuing legal education is required of members of the Integrated Bar of the Philippines to ensure that throughout their career, they keep abreast with law and jurisprudence, maintain the ethics of the profession and enhance the standards of the practice of law,” the SC said in Bar Matter No. 850.
