Gov. Gavin Newsom signed into law a new piece of legislation that guarantees all students will receive lunch even if their parents or guardians have not paid their meal fees. The bill, authored by state Sen. Robert Hertzberg, says students shouldn't be denied a meal of their choice because of unpaid fees. It also ensures"that the pupil is not shamed or treated differently from other pupils.

We did that in our school districts, now trying to find the money to pay for it as a lot more stop paying for lunches. even if they had the money. People cheat no matter where they can.

My high school kept a 'tab' on students that couldn't afford lunch that day and would stop serving them after so much money was owed.

Not just lunch. Many schools provide free breakfast and lunch, some for all children - no questions asked, and some even provide meals during breaks & vacations. No problem feeding hungry children but parents need to be responsible for them some of the time.
Now the parents with 'hungry, helpless children' can go to Applebee's on taxpayer dime.
