BREAKING: Aged care royal commission chair Richard Tracey QC has died. The former Federal Court judge was recently diagnosed with cancer.

The former Federal Court judge died on Friday, the royal commission announced on Monday at the beginning of a Melbourne public hearing examining workforce issues.

“[Mr Tracey] was experienced. He was wise. He was admired. He knew the law like the back of his hand. He was prepared to take a punt if it meant we got the best outcome," Ms Briggs said. The new chairman of the royal commission, Tony Pagone, QC, said Mr Tracey's "work on this commission has … been solid, selfless and significant".

Lucky, he will miss the indignity of the aged care system!!!!

So this Richard Tracey QC was diagnosed with cancer 7 weeks ago and was in USA getting treatment which obviously failed ? What’s wrong with Australia’s great cancer specialists ? Seems even the most intelligent will believe and try anything when they get desperate

A good and decent man has left us. 😭🙏❤

Very sad news. His incisive and probing mind was on full display at the Royal Commission, and he was greatly respected. Condolences to his family and all who worked with him.

Very sad to hear that news. He was a decent and honourable person and excellent at his job.
