Mexican media report that Medina Mora was suspected of having made $5.2 million transfers to bank accounts in the US and Britain that were not reported in his financial declarations.

According to the Mexican constitution, resignations of Supreme Court justices are submitted to the president, and if accepted, sent to the Senate.Medina Mora, 62, was appointed to his position in 2015 by then-president Enrique Pena Nieto for a 15-year tenure. Before becoming Supreme Court justice, Medina Mora was well-known among the Mexican security establishment.
