A pumped-up prime minister is betting that the judges’ decision will play well for him with leave voters, says Guardian columnist Martin Kettle

An angry and disturbingly pumped-up Boris Johnson’s response to the court in the recalled House of Commons tonight was an act of total contempt – for the courts, for parliament and ultimately for public and political decency. For the time being, Johnson still retains much of the formal power of the prime minister. But the role’s inner power, its moral authority, the holder’s ability to govern and his meaningful capacity to represent the country are practically shot.

So there's a Supreme Court ruling saying that he broke the law but there will be no consequences? Is it like that for everyone or only psychopaths?

There would be more rocket fuel in a fart 😁😁😁

Makng himself a victim just like Trump. His role model. Even to covering his baldness.

Excellent, all his plans have worked so well😂😂😂

Truly of the gutter! UniteToRemain NotMyPM

No one wants a general election

The worst thing about all of this is that Johnson doesn't even believe in Brexit. He is inflicting all of this on the country simply for his own political advancement. He is betting the UK on the fact that there are enough racists dimwit leave voters to keep him in power

They invading Britain!

He must resign, we can not accept this guys as a prime minister for this country...

He is second coming of trump. Johnson should draw lessons from history and current trump presidency but aside his ego follow the rule of law. Otherwise ‘those who forget the past are condemned to repeat it’.

I insist: BorisJohnson should resign ASAP for Queen & Country, and dignity. BrexitChaos

Only bigots would have voted for this criminal in any case, and I refuse to believe that there are many more bigots to come out of the woodwork in support of his tinpot dictatorship. He will get spanked at the polls, as is appropriate for the bigot he is BorisJohnson

Sadly, he sounds just like Trump. PennyRed

And if his performance in Parl is anything to go, he will be able to do that.
