Sky News host Alan Jones says “one of the great ironies” of the legal system is that people can’t be arrested based on their intention.

Mr Jones said “much will be said” about the man who is allegedly responsible for a stabbing attack in Sydney on Tuesday and his history of mental illness and weapons charges. “But as the police rightly say, and to be fair to the courts, the history of his previous behaviour bears no relationship to the horrific episodes of yesterday,” he said. The broadcaster said the incident can be “simply summed up by saying, this is the world of today”.
