A two-year-old girl locked up in a Melbourne detention centre has had four teeth surgically removed under general anaesthetic, after her baby teeth rotted during her time in immigration detention.

Australian-born Tharunicaa has been locked up at Melbourne Immigration Transit Accommodation with her family since March last year when she, her sister Kopika, and their parents Priya and Nades were forcibly removed from their home in Biloela in central Queensland after Priya's bridging visa expired.Tharunicaa had been breastfed when the family was taken into immigration detention, but Priya's milk had soon dried up from the stress of detention.
