Jigawa Assembly passes Administration of Criminal Justice bill to replace 50-year-old Code

The Jigawa State House of Assembly has passed the Administration of Criminal Justice bill into law, following the adoption of a report by the House’s ad-hoc committee on justice and judiciary.

He said the amended law has come up with innovations which include granting of bail to women while parents or relatives will not be arrested because of an offence committed their son or daughter. Contributing to the debate, member representing Hadejia constituency, Barrister Abubakar Sadiq described the law as a welcome development as most of the provisions of the criminal procedure were inherited from pre-independence.
