The Supreme Court decided that removing a cross that has stood since 1925 in a Maryland highway would stoke religious discord

WASHINGTON--The Supreme Court voted 7-2 on Thursday to let a 40-foot cross remain on a Maryland highway median, concluding that the memorial to World War I’s fallen heros holds a secular meaning and does not violate the constitutional separation of church and state.

But there was no consensus for the court’s reasoning, with justices in the majority issuing six separate opinions, capped by an impassioned dissent from the two most liberal justices. The spectrum illustrated that deep disagreements over the intersection of government...

Or, it would be in accordance with our constitution.

So?

So a giant 40-foot cross isn’t religious? Fine. Then churches aren’t religious either. Make them pay their damn taxes!

What does this cross have to do with politics? Church and state are supposed to be separate, right?

I like SC decision, pragmatic and sensible. Why can't we the Americans be more accepting, more tolerant.

If atheists - and the ACLU - had any real conviction and balls, there wouldn't be a Muslim caucus in Congress and Muslim children wouldn't be praying in public schools.

Keep your sky-daddy fairy tales to yourself.

Why would anyone want to remove it?

The Supreme Court's decision to let a 40-foot cross remain in Maryland cites a 2001 WSJ article revealing how monoliths placed throughout the U.S. were in part a promotional campaign for the 1956 film “The Ten Commandments.' Read the original article:

So the cross contains a secular message but would stoke religious discord if removed

A 7 to 2 decision, so not decided ideologically.

Says Kavanaugh and Gorsuch...

Someone should privately finance a giant concrete i and m to be erected next to it so that it spells out tim.

Seriously?! The United States is fucked

Would think an important issue would be that when the cross was first installed it was on private land that the state later purchased.

It was here long before the idiots opposed to its presence. If you don't like it, don't choose to live nearby. If you don't like Christianity, don't move to the country or move to a country that you feel comfortable. Simple.

Somebody should put a truck into it

As long as it doesn't impede and/or cause accidents with drivers, I don't care where it's placed. ♀️

Oh taking it **down** will stoke the religious discord, got it. 🗑

And this is what SCOTUS wastes its time on?

Sweet.

Just use this case as a clarion bell for what more is coming

Actually it’s the press that shows discord- Supremes said it was legal

fed_upwithobama Ginsburg's dissent was sickening and FakeNews (joined by Sotomayor). She argues the cross is a religious symbol thus it is inappropriate. No, what is inappropriate is the rainbow (a Christian/Jewish symbol) being used as a gay pride flag.

Weird how they only say this stuff when they're dealing with the dominate religious group.

Smart. By what margin?

More lies from media democrats people

Excellent decision

Well I disagree. Inspires too much crazy. A cross has different meanings. Now a cross is universally used as a grave symbol.

Pete Williams has details from the court steps. It's a fact of life many people believe in God AS long as Religion is Separate from State It's also a fact that in America laws are made based on religious beliefs Not a good thing Good. There are no church services held there. Everyone but Radicalized democrats know it was erected as a war memorial. It has stood in good standing for damn near a century and now has become part and parcel of where it stands. Maybe lets dig up Bob Byrd from ANC
