Ontario's highest court is expected to rule today on whether doctors in the province are obligated to give referrals for medical services that clash with their moral or religious beliefs.

A group of doctors has asked the Court of Appeal for Ontario to overturn a divisional court decision that upheld the referral requirement.

Last year, the divisional court found that while the policy does infringe on doctors' religious freedom, the benefits to the public outweigh the cost to physicians. In its appeal, the group of five doctors and three professional organizations argued the ruling was unreasonable because it gave more weight to an assumed problem with access to health care than to a real infringement of doctors' rights.

It also alleged the court erred in saying doctors could pick specialties where fewer moral conflicts arise, arguing that presumes physicians can easily switch jobs.

If their religious beliefs conflict with their medical duties, they can find employment elsewhere. We don't need doctors who put themselves before their patients.

Then they shouldn't be doctors if they dont.

Family of murdered Toronto physician 'destroyed,' court hearsThe family of a Toronto woman murdered by her husband has told a sentencing hearing they are heartbroken and filled with rage over her death. While we pander to the criminal, this family suffers; we pay for his therapy and rehabilitation (is there such a thing?), and offer nothing for the victims fuckingjoke How is this case different from Michael Ball in Kitchener (St. Catherines) Ball gets 25 no parole, and here they are looking at a joint submission of 14? Both should be 1st degree. Because of a plea? Please.
