BREAKING Julian Assange to spend almost a year in jail over skipping bail in London in 2012

Assange’s defence lawyer Mark Summers, QC, said Assange was “just short of [having a] reasonable excuse” for skipping bail.“These are unusual, difficult and different circumstances… [he] had strongly held fears of being removed to the United States.Summers said it was “obvious they were reasonable fears”.

After the sentence was handed down Assange nodded and raised his fist to the public gallery, where supporters shouted “shame on you” to the judge. And he said Sweden had a history of surrendering people to states with a history of state-sanctioned torture without proper extradition processes. In Assange’s mind such an extra-judicial “rendition” was inevitable, “so he took the decision to seek refuge in the Ecuadorian embassy and apply for asylum”.

Disgusting the way Australia has abandoned him

Australia you have an Aussie in jail in London whether you like him or not and have an obligation to help this man.😥

All he did was give Whistleblowers a Vehicle. Trouble is The West are the Criminals And didn’t like being Exposed

Another year of rent free accommodation 😡

Unlikely Julian will ever taste the air of freedom ever again

Bloody bs let him go!!! there the criminals!!!

If he does not want to go to America and get a huge sentence.......best he plays up a bit in the English Jail to get extra time. Good old Australia here don't want to know him, we really are sucks to USA.

Draconian. No-one else has been jailed for failing to appear in Court on minor charge - let alone while under political asylum status.

😒

I cant believe anyone is really happy about this outcome. God go with him its one survival challenge after another with no recovery time

...why isn’t the Australian government stepping in here? It is their job to look after Australian citizens.

oh dear poor little Assange paying the price of breaching bail like everyone else

Six years in self imposed detention for a year of jail what a foo

Too bad so sad

Free him

Its a funny old world we live in. Here we have a bloke wants to expose the truths of our world to the population and everyone wants him locked up... buggered if I know what’s wrong with everyone 🤔
