A new 20-year minimum sentence will be put in force, along with an expanded definition of murder. Should the reform be nation wide? 9News

The reform would mean individuals convicted of killing a child or a disabled or elderly person by long-term physical and sexual abuse will go to prison for a minimum of 20 years.

It would expand the definition of murder to take in deaths caused by an act or omission with reckless indifference to human life, and add a new circumstance of aggravation where homicide victims are under the age of 12. Daniel Morcombe was killed when he went missing from a bus stop near his home on the Sunshine Coast in Queensland on Sunday, Dec. 7, 2003. The party has in turn put forward a private member’s bill to introduce a new offence of child homicide and a minimum of 15 years for child manslaughter.

But the state Labor government says it would lead to more trials and a potential increase in cases that end without a conviction.

100 years ago they would drag a murderer into the street and hang them from a tree. No prison sentence, no prison bill for the tax payers and no more scum on the street. Bring back capital punishment

100% yes

YES!

Definitely. It shd be done long time ago. No one ever has the right to kill or end another one’s right, more so to children.

These pricks should just b put away 4 life no parol! Why do they deserve freedom?

20 is a joke! Should be minimum 35 years for killing a child! 25 year minimum for child sex charges! Enough is enough! All the paedo killing monsters from the 90’s are just starting to get parole ie. Phillip Lett!

Yes it should, our laws are too weak as they stand right now.

20 years minimum sentence, they go to Jail and get fed and looked after better than our elders that are in care homes. What a joke this is, build a jail = jobs and let these sick people who commit murder rot for life. No tv or anything, just a cell, toilet and bed...

You have to be joking 'Anybody' who kills a Child should NEVER be released, what's this 20years rubbish, get fair dinkum, if you are serious about this issue then you should be demanding a Life Sentence, and nothing less for Murder or Man Slaughter of an innocent Child PERIOD.

20 yrs for taking life What a bloody joke. That why we call Ausoa beautiful country with stupidest laws. 120 Years for Murder once provenan Australian

Good luck with Victorian judges - by far the worst in the country.
