LONDON (Reuters) - A month ago, Italian sport fans may have thought they would be seeing their team defend their European Championship title in soccer this weekend - but they will have other reasons to cheer as two of their tennis stars stand on the brink of history.

According to his former colleague Tan Sri Mohamed Apandi Ali, Dzaiddin passed away at 7.15pm at the Prince Court Medical Centre yesterday.“His passing was quite a surprise but he was not well,” said Apandi, who was a former Federal Court judge.“The country will miss him. We have lost a good member of the judiciary,” he said when contacted.

He left in 1962 to read law in London and was in private practice before he was elevated to the bench.Dzaiddin was appointed a High Court judge on Oct 1, 1982, and a Supreme Court judge on Dec 18, 1992.In June 2000, he was bestowed the Grade of Panglima Setia Mahkota by the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, which carries the title Tan Sri.
