Execution,Taberon Honie,Attorney

A man scheduled to be executed on August 8 is launching one last effort to stave off the death penalty.

Taberon Honie, who has been on death row for 25 years for the 1998 murder and sexual assault of his girlfriend’s mother Claudia Benn, has been ordered to be executed by lethal injection. Honie was in Fifth District Court in Cedar City, Utah on Monday, June 10, 2024.

His attorney recently filed several motions. If this execution is to be stopped or delayed, it will be because of a ruling by justices at the Utah Supreme Court inside the state Capitol.Utah set to proceed with lethal injection of Taberon Honie despite Idaho's failed attempt"I don't think this is unexpected," said Skye Lazaro, a criminal defense attorney not affiliated with the case.

"If the court takes this issue up and decides to weigh in on it, I would be very surprised if they do so before August," Lazaro said.
