A cage-free zoo set to open in western Sydney has again ruffled the feathers of a rival outdoor wildlife attraction, less than a year after its out-of-court settlement with Taronga Zoo over the right to use the name “Sydney Zoo' | LucyCormack

A cage-free zoo set to open in western Sydney has again ruffled the feathers of a rival outdoor wildlife attraction, less than a year after itsnear Eastern Creek and set to open this year, is now in the midst of a tussle with the 47-year-old Featherdale Wildlife Park - and cuddles with koalas are at the centre of it all.

For example Sydney Zoo is not to offer a “koala interaction experience,” its animals must be two-thirds “exotic species” upon opening, and the zoo must vary the type of animal encounters it offers, to set its native wildlife apart from that of Featherdale. The conditions were agreed to by Sydney Zoo when it was given approval in 2017, following initial opposition from Featherdale; today home to more than 1700 Australian native animals from hundreds of different species.

According to the judgment, Featherdale alleges that Sydney Zoo's marketing activities constitute a breach of the Environmental Planning and Assessment Act. Featherdale's concerns prompted it to lodge a court action in December, seeking evidence of Sydney Zoo's brochures, pamphlets and posters, records of its communications with tour operators and travel agents, information about its Aboriginal Heritage Experience Strategy, its proposed pricing structure and any documents relating to "the amount and type of Australia species and exotic species planned for the zoo.

Sydney Zoo and Australian Attractions attempted to dismiss both the notice and subpoena, arguing that the information would take more than 40 hours to be collated, labelling the request a "fishing exercise" for information that was "commercially sensitive".In May last year

LucyCormack I really enjoyed my time at the Featherdale Wildlife Park. That’s where I went to get my photo with a Koala.

LucyCormack It's what the people want, a zoo we can get up close & personal with the wildlife.😉🐨🇦🇺

LucyCormack That's nice, especially as the ones in the wild are being decimated and no one cares.

LucyCormack . If we’d stop tearing down forests to build high-rise apartments, cattle stations and coal mines, we wouldn’t need zoos.
