Mohammat Hossain Nosrati is on bail accused of trafficking methamphetamine - after he was released from immigration detention in November 2023.
Mohammat Hossain Nosrati, 29, was arrested by the Australian Federal Police on Wednesday after he failed to return to his Canning Bridge accommodation before 10pm on June 3.According to his duty lawyer, the alleged breaches occurred in the context of him off medication for schizophrenia. The court heard he hadn't taken the medication Olanzapine for 4 weeks because he was not given a Medicare card upon his release.
Nosrati was part of the cohort released from immigration detention in November 2023 - after the High Court decision ruled it was illegal to hold immigration detainees indefinitely. According to the Commonwealth prosecutor, Nosrati had a significant criminal history in Victoria and has allegedly committed further offenses in Western Australia since his release from immigration detention.The court heard Nosrati was initially granted a protection visa due to his sexuality and fear of persecution upon return to Iran.The 29-year-old has been remanded in custody and is due to reappear in court via video link on June 14.
