B.C. tables legislation to require cars, trucks sold by 2040 be zero emission GlobeBC

All light-duty cars and trucks sold in British Columbia would have to be zero-emission by 2040 under legislation tabled Wednesday.

Energy Minister Michelle Mungall says the Zero Emission Vehicles Act aims to fight climate change by phasing out gas powered vehicles. She says the legislation would set target dates of 10 per cent zero-emission sales by 2025, 30 per cent by 2030 and 100 per cent by 2040.Mungall says zero emission vehicles are part of the government’s $902 million CleanBC program to cut greenhouse gas emissions by 40 per cent by 2030 based on 2007 pollution levels.

She says the CleanBC plan includes incentives for zero-emission vehicle purchases up to $5,000 on a new battery electric or plug-in hybrid electric vehicle and up to $6,000 for a hydrogen fuel-cell vehicle. “British Columbians are eager to make the switch to zero-emission vehicles,” said Mungall in the legislature. “We have the highest per capita adoption of zero emission vehicles in Canada, with over 17,000 zero-emission vehicles on the road, averaging four per cent of new light-duty vehicle sales in 2018.”

GlobeBC What. A. Bunch. Of. Losers. 👎🏼 How can the BC gov’t deliver that on technology that does not yet exist. The difference between what technology can do and what we’d like it to do is called living in the clouds ☁️.

GlobeBC Jow many people will they lose to other provinces by end of 2030? I say 1.5 millions. Challenge on!

GlobeBC So everyone has sooo much money from coal exports, they will be driving brand new cars...and other cars will be “taken” by the state? Ridiculous when the entire country produces only 1-1.5% of global emissions...

GlobeBC Oh that’s good. They won’t mind than when Jason Kennedy turns off the gas line

GlobeBC I promise to give everyone free money by 2080.

GlobeBC. Warming is better than cooling. Vehicles will come in from Alberta to solve a problem that doesn’t exist.

GlobeBC BC here we come.

GlobeBC So unrealistic

GlobeBC alternative universe BC Horgan...no pipelines BC Horgan... cant explain a 12 cent a litre increase and perhaps the industry should invest more in refineries and the federal government should ' invest more in supply.”

GlobeBC By then I'll be drugged up in a wrinkle farm

GlobeBC And this should be based on comprehensive measures of emissions resulting from manufacturing, distribution and generation and distribution of electricity including infrastructure used.

GlobeBC What does that mean going to fine me if I buy a car from another province. Going to fine fuel companies for petrol stations offering such. Is the infrastructure in the whole province going to be numerous for EV charging and or residence have to provide fast charging.driving to NA

GlobeBC Convert BC’s Billion litres of automotive fuel consumption to electricity you get about 60GWh that BC does not currently produce. A Site C sized dam generates 5GWh. So this announcement is pure Green Bullshit on Steroids. And the Globe should call out this BC NDP nonsense

GlobeBC Sure.

GlobeBC Why just cars and trucks. How about planes and trains and ships. It won’t work.

GlobeBC Well Canada better put some of the money from the Carbon Tax into developing tech for EV's to sustain properly in our climate. Oh don't forget the non-existing infrastructure needed to power these vehicles we sorely need.

GlobeBC How about by 2040 we have a law that says politicians must have zero emissions as too bullshit and stupidity.
