A 15-year-old boy who described the alleged Wakeley terrorist as his “mate” sent messages in the days after the church stabbing about wanting “to do something so bad”, including attacking “a bunch of Jews”, a court has heard.during a live-streamed service at Christ the Good Shepherd Church in Wakeley on April 15, which was declared a terrorist incident. During a raid on the teenager’s home, police say they found two hand-drawn flags of the terrorist group Islamic State.
The prosecutor said the boy’s views, allegedly held since January, persisted. She said he had sent messages to a person after the church incident saying: “I know the bloke who done it, he’s my mate.” Rodger said two hand-drawn IS flags were found in the boy’s bedroom during a police raid on April 24, while a tomahawk and hunting knife were found in the garage. He said his client, in some of the alleged comments, was “venting” and expressing “very deranged thoughts” but was “not saying ‘I am planning an attack’, nor saying ‘I have organised ’”. Dib said the discussions were “macho-type” and “it would not be outside of the realm of possibility” that it was a 15-year-old “trying to brag … about something that he has no connection to”.“This is not, in my respectful submission, an extremely strong prosecution case,” Dib said. “There are significant inferences that need to be drawn.”
