By Mark Guarino March 29 CHICAGO — At Manny’s, a Jewish deli in the South Loop, the usual lunchtime chatter was overtaken this week by the whiplash news about actor Jussie Smollett and the charges he no longer faces for what police say was a staged hate crime.
Across the table at Manny’s, his lunchtime companion put the case in personal terms: “If it had been one of us,” Clarence Davis said, “we’d already be in jail.” [Jussie Smollett case prompts criticism from prosecutors and Trump amid questions about dropped charges]“People feel there is something unscrupulous going on,” Al Pickett said in between servicing clients at his barber shop in Bronzeville, and they’re stung by the international attention the case has thrust upon Chicago. “Saying we’re a city capable of a hate crime like that, we didn’t need that,” Pickett said.
“What difference am I going to make if I chase after somebody with a gun and know the state’s attorney is going to let them go?” said a longtime officer, who spoke on the condition of anonymity because he is not authorized to speak for the department.
All this noise because ONE black man out of 1000 got charges dropped. Now there's a problem. It's over, let it go.
You don’t say
He’s already a broke ass torn spirited person. He’ll never get up from this one ever again. Sure, he’ll have his saying on TV and he’ll get casted to be the GOP’s next blackxit face as soon as they get tired of Candace, then, they’ll get swept under the carpet with all others.
Loser of year awards goes to Jessica Smolletts 👌
As whites become minority, the number of hate hoaxes against us will increase, and the perpetrators will walk free.
Yea because if ur wealthy famous and have political privilege u have a different set of laws than regular ChicagoIL citizens or regular Americans citizens. All regular races without privilege would b in jail for what he did. Not fair that the laws aren't the same 4 everyone
I have known for a long time how corrupt the FBI and Department of Justice is when it comes to concealing corrupt and unlawful activities on the part of government officials. I wrote a book about my experiences with it. I exposed John Bolton as well.
How much did Jussy pay the right official? Follow the money. It is ALWAYS about the money.
The police fucked by renting the 2 suspects a room. Thats really all there is to it!
Jussie Smollett was indicted on 16 felony counts! Who else would be able to get all 16 counts dropped How? Thanks to family friends Michelle/Obama. That's some real black privilege right there.
We need to be cynical about trumps dropped charges. Who cares about an actor? How is this actor affecting global policy?
Cynical You are joking right If Chicago isn’t cynical over their corrupt ass police Dept and all their unsolved homicides, then they will never be cynical. You guys kill me with the bullsh**
How does that turn then cynical but the cops having been corrupt for years is all good?
Tiredddddddddd of these headlines. Can we talk about the GOOD work. Nipsey was doing RIPNipsey
oh it wasn’t the mass corruption, inequality and unchecked violence? it was jussie
That's the straw? Decades of corruption and incompetence but this is rock bottom? If only a young, idealistic senator could swoop in and ... nevermind.
police did their job and the prosecution dropped the ball
