A 57-year-old British man who allegedly tried to flee Australia across Torres Strait on a jet ski will be extradited to Western Australia, after rejecting his court-appointed lawyer in a Cairns court.He refused help from a Legal Aid lawyerDavid James Jackson was arrested on Saibai Island, less than five kilometres from the Papua New Guinea mainland at the northern end of Torres Strait, after he launched a jet ski off the tip of Cape York allegedly armed with a crossbow.

Appearing in the Cairns Magistrates Court on Friday, Mr Jackson tried to fight his extradition, saying he had been denied his"rights to legal representation".The court heard Mr Jackson refused help from the court-appointed Legal Aid lawyer."He was just interested in getting his face on TV."
