David Lametti issued an order for a new trial seven weeks after becoming justice minister.

Glen Assoun is embraced by family members at Nova Scotia Supreme Court in Halifax on March 1, 2019.

But he said in an interview:"I can tell you this much, that Glen Assoun is 100 per cent factually innocent and he suffered every single day while he waited for his exoneration. I can say that Minister Lametti worked with dispatch to make sure that justice was done." "As minister, I took potential wrongful conviction matters incredibly seriously. In order to deal with all such applications more thoroughly, effectively, and impartially, I appointed the Honourable Mr. Justice Morris Fish as special adviser on wrongful convictions in early December 2018. His role was designed to advise me — as minister — on applications under the criminal conviction review process, of which there were many.

Lametti acted swiftly on the group's advice, saying in his order for a new trial that he had determined"upon investigation that there are new matters of significance, as well as relevant and reliable information, that was not disclosed to Mr. Glen Assoun during his criminal proceedings." As a result of that investigation, Lametti said he is"satisfied that there is a reasonable basis to conclude that a miscarriage of justice likely occurred.

Is this the work of a great minister of justice

Seems like the MSM received their deflection orders from the PMO today. Three, and counting, MSM publications with the exact same by-line...

She started all this bullsh*t, not because of the legal or ethical highground...but because her poor little fragile feelings were hurt and she wanted to assert her selfishness.....it looks like it is going to backfire and all the skeletons will roll from her closet.

You might want to read the Judges statement before you use yourCon talking points! Please don’t be SO obvious! Trudeau has lost all confidence from his own party. The country despises him. He’s over his head! He has a name only. He’s a girly boy Drama teacher, trust fund baby that reads a script whenever he’s on camera! He’s an embarrassment! TrudeaMustgo That doesn’t change the fact that Trudeau and his Cronies committed Obstruction of Justice a month ago does it? No,so why is the media pushing a narrative to say they were having a “personal” issue when there was no issue at all?Let the PM and his Cronies do the smearing please..

Evening Update: Wilson-Raybould to send evidence to justice committeeAlso, Mueller delivers report to the Attorney General William Barr, truck driver sentenced in Humboldt crash and Kiss says good-bye but maybe they shouldn’t As legislators & lawyers pore over Wilson-Raybould's files, it's worth reminding everyone she said Justin Trudeau did nothing illegal in promoting a remediation agreement for SNC-Lavalin. Inappropriate, yes, but that's part of a politician's job description. Have a listen ... It's also inappropriate that the Minister of Justice is also the AG of Canada. Conflict of Interest. Bull that they can separate their duties or thoughts. AG needs to be moved out of Party Politics periof. Thst is the only result thst needs yo vome out of the Ethics Committee
