Montreal school board to ignore latest Quebec religious symbols law

But even before the text is made public, one school board has declared its intention to disobey a law that it says will violate the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms.

Quebec Premier Francois Legault has said today's secularism legislation will target teachers, judges, police officers, prison guards and other public servants in what the government considers to be positions of authority. The government counters that it won a mandate last October to introduce the legislation, which it says is supported by a majority of Quebecers. Civil rights groups and religious organizations argue the bill is primarily aimed at Muslim women who wear the hijab.

I'm just gonna say... as a white, atheist Canadian prone to bad hair days, if I could wear a hijab without looking like a giant wanker I would rock that every day. SO pretty and practical! I have hijab envy.

The Lord's Prayer was removed from Canadian schools only to be replaced by Muslim prayer. If we have separation of church and state, why can't we also have separation of mosque and state?

It needs to happen. If for example someone who is from a country where Muslims slaughter and persecute them daily, how are they to feel being pulled over by an officer in hijab? Especially when their religion says non-Muslims aren’t equal. Seems like a politically correct mess.

I am a head covering Christian I ware a cross and I have one tattoo on my arm..I don’t believe this only targets Muslims..it would target christians Catholics Muslims jews satanists and Everyone that has a dress or symbol for their believe system ..

If they break the law then lock them up...laws are written for Canadians and new Canadians...neither of the groups get to pic and choose...
