New laws in Europe mean iPhone users there are already facing all manner of new threats to their safety.

Already a subscriber?Apps that encourage people to speed or even kill themselves, and others that promote vaping, drug-taking, drinking and gambling, could begin to appear on iPhones if Apple is forced to open the platform up to competition, lawyers for the company said on Tuesday.

In Europe, where regulators recently forced Apple to open up its platform to competition there, iPhone and iPad users were already facing “degraded” app security, said Stephen Free, SC, representing Apple.after Apple banned the game from iPhones and iPads.

“Those are pro-competitive outcomes which in many critical respects will be jeopardised by the position Epic urges on the court.”Likewise, “Apple is not giving reassuring messages to their users in Europe that everything is just as good as it always was. There will be gaps created by the compulsion to move to this different model,” he said.
