The Environmental Protection Agency announced a ban on the ongoing use of chrysotile asbestos in the United States. Chrysotile asbestos is a carcinogen linked to more than 40,000 U.S. deaths each year. The EPA states that there is no safe level of exposure to asbestos, which can cause lung cancer, mesothelioma, ovarian cancer, and other health issues. The ban is part of the administration's environmental justice agenda
